Dez started cooking because food had a way of bringing everyone into the same room. But it took getting older for him to realize that what stayed with him wasn’t always what was on the plate.
It was how it felt to be around the table.
Where it started
It started with
Johnnie Mae.
Johnnie Mae, the woman who raised Dez, had one rule: nobody left hungry.
Her pancake breakfasts were legendary among Dez’s friends. You could say “no thank you” all you wanted. If she’d already made the pancake, you were eating it.
Years later, Dez realized something.
Nobody talked about
the pancakes.
They talked about how
they felt at her table.
That’s SoulFed.
